The aim of the Breathing London project was to capture the diversity of London’s green and open spaces over the course of a year. A glance through the fabulous images uploaded to our website shows that we have definitely succeeded in doing that. We have photos from all boroughs through all the seasons; we have parks, woodlands, waterways and more; we have people, animals and plants. And we have you – our wonderfully diverse group of Breathing London photographers!
But all good things must come to an end and the final date for photography for Breathing London is 17th April 2017 (Easter Monday) with a deadline for upload to the website of 30th April 2017.
For our final competition we would like you to showcase your Breathing London by selecting your five favourite Breathing London shots for your ‘My Breathing London’ portfolio. To accompany these you should also submit a short write-up telling us why you chose them and how they show what Breathing London means to you.
We will be appointing a panel of independent judges to judge the competition. Three prize winners will be awarded an RPS London medal – gold (1st), silver (2nd) and bronze (3rd).
We will also be producing a printed panel of each of the winning portfolios and a digital slideshow of all entries for display at our end of project exhibition and any other events we may hold around that time.
Rules and how to enter
All images entered for the competition must have been taken between the start of the project on 15th January 2016 and the end date 17 April 2017 and uploaded to the Breathing London website by the upload closing date 30th April 2017.
Each entrant should select FIVE of their images for entry to the competition. (This should not include photos taken for our August ‘Away from the Boroughs’ theme.)
Under ‘Competitions’, select ‘Final Portfolio’ for each of these images. (In the usual way for entering competitions.)
Submit the accompanying write-up by email to greenlondon@rps.org. The write-up should be a separate document, not included in the body of the email. It should consist of:
- A list numbered 1 to 5 of the titles of the images you have included in your portfolio in the order you would like them to be viewed.
- A short (max. 150 words) write-up, entitled ‘My Breathing London’, explaining your choice of images and how they show what Breathing London means to you.
Photos must be uploaded to the Breathing London website and entered into the competition by the closing date of 30th April 2017.
Accompanying write-ups must be submitted by the 5th May 2017.
Entries that do not consist of FIVE images plus accompanying write-up will be disqualified.
There is strictly to be no discussion about your choice of photos for your portfolio on the Breathing London Facebook page – or any other public forum – although we’re happy to answer general questions about the competition.
In selecting the winners, judges will be considering the quality of the photos and how the write-up demonstrates what Breathing London means to you.
Hope this inspires you to make the final push with your Breathing London images – clear up those languishing on your hard disk and keep up the Spring snapping.
Good luck and thanks for all your wonderful contributions so far!
